Play Plus
SEND Morning - Monday's 10am - 12pm (Term time only)
Who are we....
Play Plus is a music and arts community project open to children age 0 - 5 where there is a concern about speech or behaviour or a diagnosis of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
It’s a safe and nurturing space and our team are supportive and have experience in this area from their own journeys. It's a great place to make new friends and we are thankful to Children in Need for their support to create our great group.
We have a calm environment for both children and parents with access to a secure outside space.
Each week we theme our session from great children’s books and include story telling, sensory play and different entertaining and educational activities that support your children's development, communication and confidence.
We have local artists and therapists join us too from story tellers, musicians and gymnasts. It's great to have so much fun together.
Our SEND Team
It has been nice to meet other parents with children who have additional needs, it’s nice not to feel like people are trying to work out what’s wrong with your child. people are comfortable to ask questions or just to accept without judgement.
Where are we...
Near the Cemetery Lane Entrance of Charlton Park. There is a free car park near the play park, and we are on the 422, 486, 53, 54 & 380 bus routes.

Play Plus is kindly funded by Children in Need.
Choo Choo Clickety Clack
We had such a great session today, we had lots of new faces and it was great to welcome back some old friends.
Our story today was Choo Choo clickety clack, by Margaret Mayo and Alex Ayliffe. It's all about the sounds vehicles make and we had great fun discovering each sound and matching them with the story.
The morning was spent exploring shapes, especially those we can find on cars and lorries.
We also made shapes in shaving foam, which was very messy fun!
Chris From Global Fusion came today, it was his first time here, but the kids really enjoyed his session. We sung about all the different things we do at the Big Red Bus and played some amazing instruments as we sang 'I am the music man, I come from far away'. The children all joined in brilliantly and after one of them pretended to be Chris!
Next week we are discovering more sounds, but this time Animal Sounds and making some musical instruments, so come along for some shakerific fun!
Super Worm comes to Play Plus
What a great time we had today. Super worm was the story we explored and we we did this in loads of ways...
We had our tuft tray filled with slimy spaghetti and tweezers, as the children arrived that was the thing they all headed for. We had some worm play dough mats, where we had to make long worms and short worms. We also had a wonderful time with our new bug hunting equipment, looking for bugs outside. We found little jumping flies and worms and looking at a shiny spider web through a magnifying glass is so fascinating.
Our sensory area was lit up with fish tubes and our disco lights. But what we all loved was the animals coming to visit. Colin the cockroach and Marvin the Millipede. We even fed some beaded dragons.
