The kids from the Big Red Bus Club, Pump It Up summer music programme, as part of the National Lottery 25th anniversary celebration, have released thier first music demo track.
The band spent a whole week working with local musicians exploring different elements of music to compose thier own track based on thier experiences this year and hopes for the future.
The track called Pump It Up uses instruments donated to the programme from local parents and a few that the Big Red Bus Club already had which the band were encouraged to explore and supported to use. Sam the coordinator was always on hand to give improptu lessons on drums, guitar and keyboard as everyone jammed together.
Isaac age 11 summed up Pump It Ups child centered approach to music exploration,
"I liked that it was actually aimed at my music ability and also everyone else’s ability"
Throughout the week workshops on rhythm, melody and composition were dovetailed with time to use music to play games, work together and build friendships. One parent said of the week,
"My son enjoyed playing instruments. I enjoyed him not being on a screen and socialising face to face with other kids"
