The circus has been and gone. But it might have left behind them the new generation of circus fanatics. We had a truly great day on Friday, not even the rain was able to dampen our mood.
We were open for two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each session was based on a normal Play Plus session with a similar structure of Free Flow play, Story time, song time and then the circus fun began.
We were in awe as the two circus professionals from Upswing showed us some Juggling tricks, some contact ball tricks and some amazing balancing tricks with peacock feathers.
The children were able to have a go at everything, they even were able to hold tubes and move a ball around the room, they were so happy.
Our story ‘Up and Down’ by Oliver Jeffers, was a great one which see’s a penguin shooting out of a cannon so he can try flying. This was a brilliant story to help with communication and the children were shown lots of signs they could use at home.
We also had some great activities the children could play with - the popcorn tray was much loved, they were able to scoop popcorn kernels in and out of popcorn pots, they really felt like they were at the circus. They could also make animal prints in gloopy slime.
All in all we had a fab day, the children learnt some new skills, but most of all it was brilliant to see them so brave and joining the circus for the day.
Our circus day was made possible by the funding from Children in Need.
