Past Projects
As a small, grass-roots charity we are in tune with the needs of our local community. This means we are perfectly poised to dynamically identify and react to need with the implementation of bespoke projects. These both fulfil the requirements of their users, and draw on the expertise and efforts of our volunteer base.
Speak Up
Kindly funded by ‘City Bridge Trust’, ‘Speak Up’ was for anyone who wanted extra support with learning English. Each week our specially trained ESOL teacher led engaging activities designed to develop English reading and writing skills.
Our volunteer team were on-hand to signpost participants to other courses in the local area, so they could build on the skills they had acquired; and a playworker supported children through fun activities, stories, and songs.
Sessions ran on Monday mornings, 10 am - 12 noon.
Play Plus
Play Plus was created for children needing support with their development, especially Speech and Language or behaviour.
Our Makaton Tutor led sessions based on a different book each week. Each theme was delivered through engaging activities, sensory trays, story and song time. The Big Red Bus Club volunteer team linked users up with other services in the borough, helping to provide much-needed assistance.
Sessions ran on Tuesday mornings, 10am - 11.30am.
