We seem to be doing a bit of a Julia Donaldson binge at Play Plus and it is not something I am ashamed of. Her books are amazing and allow for so much creativity and imaginary play. You get sent into a world where animals talk and where incredible creatures like the Gruffalo appear from no where and seem normal next to a fox, snake and owl!!
This is one of my all time favourite story books. The pictures are gorgeous and the story is brilliant, about how even if you are small/young you can still achieve great things. Which is a great message for the kids who come to Play Plus, because they are all brilliantly capable of achieving things, like signing for the first time in a session (there was a slight tear in my eye when this happened today). So if you have never read it before grab a copy and read it with your little ones. (Don't worry I haven't completely given the story away!)
Meet our Snail and Whale, they helped us with our story today. We had magnifying glasses to find the snails 'itchy foot'.
We were definitely blown away today, not only by the story but with the dancing that went on today. Lizzie from Global Fusion Music came to show us some dance moves, which everyone enjoyed. Our story was about the Antarctic, so we had some lovely blue ribbons which we could wave about like the water, and then we pretended to be whales! But had some time before the story, where we put on some funky music and danced around! We had the cobwebs of half term to shake off!Read more
I love going to the library, mainly because it means we get a fresh hit of books to read each evening. My little one enjoys going because he always manages to get the librarian to let him stamp the books at the end of our visit. We also love reading together, and he's getting into reading, so I’ve been trying to find ways of encouraging more of a love of books.
At our last visit to the library, my little one asked if we could buy a date stamp and yesterday in Poundland we found these stamps. I know they are not date stamps but they have a similar action and date stamps are not very cheap and it might be a one time game!
So it pushed me into action and I’ve made a whole set of library cards, borrowing record slips and even a scanner (I might need to work on my scanner though!)Read more
